The news that seems to be dominating the blog network world today is the announcement of a merger between About Weblogs and b5media. Even though b5media is just over a month old and still a baby as far as blog networks go, you would have call the merger with About Weblogs a big deal.
The two networks will unite under the b5media banner and the first noticeable change you will see is that each of the About Weblogs blogs will get its own domain. Unique domain names for each blog is a good idea on multiple fronts. There are definite advantages from a branding standpoint and the fact that search engines give more weight to inbound links from a different domain as compared an internal links from the same domain can only mean good things for the Google Juice.
The merger of About Weblogs and b5media makes b5media one of the larger blog networks out there. The combined networks contain over 50 blogs and this can only help to boost the advertising potential of the entire network. I am not ready to rank b5media up there with the likes of Gawker or Weblogs Inc. just yet, however, it has only been a month since it was launched. Lets wait another month and see where these guys, and gal take it.
